The naming of: Patrick’s Place

Patrick Hamilton: Scottish Abbot and Protestant Reformer, M. 1528

“His courageous bearing attracted more attention than ever to the doctrines for which he suffered, and greatly helped to spread the Reformation in Scotland. It was said that the "reek of Patrick Hamilton infected all it blew on". His martyrdom is unusual in that he was almost alone in Scotland during the Lutheran stage of the Reformation. His only book, Loci communes, known as "Patrick's Places", set forth the doctrine of justification by faith and the contrast between the gospel and the law in a series of clear-cut propositions.”

Loci Communes ~ Common Places, in literary rhetoric it means Places to Stand, in this instance the Place to stand is Justification by faith. Patrick’s Place, or Patrick’s Place to Stand is in the faith that we are saved by God’s grace and by the sacrifice of Christ on our behalf. “Patrick’s Place” then means the place where Patrick takes his stand through faith on the grace of God.

Patrick’s Place is a place of love, remembrance and the celebration of memories and the preciousness of life. We welcome the dedications and the memorials of the entire congregation.

This place will be a place for quiet reflection and comfort; however, it is also a place of life and the celebration of life. Anyone who knew Paul, Christopher or Patrick, knew of their incredible zest for life, and that they took every minute of life, lived it to the fullest and thanked God for each moment.

As we extend the items that can be dedicated to the person in your life whom you wish to honor, please remember that this place will be a place of life. In this space there will be baptisms, small services, youth congregations, music venue (some religious and secular music) and other events in the life at Apostles. If your intent is to dedicate in a place of solitude and total serenity, then this may not be the time nor place for you. There will be meditation garden in the future Master’s Plan.

It is our hope that this place may rock the world and bring the joy and the fullness of God’s love & comfort to all who enter this place. It will be a place in which the Holy Spirit is welcome and will abide to touch the hearts of all who seek the Lord.

Love,

Doug and Kathy Reinhart
